Coin Acceptors

by Johan
(Johannesburg, SA)

Hello,

I'm from South Africa and I'm considering buying bulk candy machines from USA.
How / Where / Who do I contact to get the coin acceptor to accept local currency and not USA currency?
Do I need a new coin acceptor unit or can it be configured to accept local ZAR coins?

Thanx
Johan

Bulk Vending Machines South Africa
by: Anonymous

Your info is highly appreciated.

I will probably be starting with machines from Select Vending. They are not too far from where I stay and I'm going to see them on Monday.

There are some candy machines in and around where I stay (Johannesburg) but it's that plastic machines that looks cheap and dirty. I have not seen one of the machines from Select Vending in my area so that's a good thing.

I think I will take the branding option from them also. A bit more expensive, but it does look a great deal better than the "naked" machines.

They are also part of "Reach for a Dream" charity and that should make finding good sites a bit easier.

Bulk Vending Machines South Africa

Johan,

I tried looking on Craigslist.org for other vendors that might be selling used machines but it wasn't in English for South Africa.

Look for used machines from other vendors or even check the service phone number on other machines. Ask the vendor if they have extra machines they would like to sell. Ask them where they buy their machines and their extra coin mechs.

Check classifieds too.

Are there many other candy machines placed in your city?

Hi Rick

Thank you for the information!

LOL about that company link in your post: I'm having a meeting with the owner. He was out of the country for a while and I was getting impatient to wait for him to get back.

I do like their machines and it does not look cheap at all especially with the branding. They are importing the machines from vendmax.com

International Coin Mechanisms (acceptors)
by: Deluxe Sweets and Candy Gifts

Hi Johan,

Thank you for the great question. My opinion is I would buy the machines closer to home rather than through the US if you could. The shipping could be real expensive and take a while to earn back through the business. Many companies do offer machines that can convert their coin mechs to international currency but you would want to be more than certain that it would be set for your specific currency or the coins will not fit and then you will have a mess on your hands.

I found this South African site online http://www.selectivending.co.za/emperor.asp that creates machines for your currency. I don't know the company, but they are local and that will be important. They do look real sharp though, better than most machines I could buy here in the US. I don't know how expensive they are since I don't know your currency.

When starting out in the business, though, you MUST start with only a FEW machines to get your feet wet. DO NOT let any company trick you into buying many machines (which I GUARANTEE you they WILL try to do): 5-10 is more than enough to start off with. New machines usually are many more times expensive than used machines and if you overspend in the beginning and don't have GOOD locations with lots of traffic it will take a while to earn the money back.

Another point: You must have extra coin mechanisms on hand to replace ones that break unless you can figure out how to fix them yourself(it's not that hard to do though). It's a good idea to have a more local company from which to buy them. Another reason I'm recommending checking out the link I placed above. You don't want to have to order parts from half way across the world- high cost and lag time.

Hope this helps. Ask me more questions please if you would like.

Rick
