Marbled Fudge Brownies



Looking for a treat that looks as good to the eyes as it does the taste buds? Marbled Fudge Brownies are just that treat.

Maybe you know someone that could die for brownies, maybe you want to surprise them, whether it's a friend, your boyfriend, a co-worker or that girl you want to impress, perhaps they are for the grandkids.

Either way these delicous and filling treats will bring many smiles, and many brown teeth!

Walnuts, chocolate and cream cheese will be the main culprits in stealing that special person's heart. Make sure you save a few for yourself. Don't want you to go hungry you know.

Pack them in an airtight container and bag a few in a large cellophane bag and drop inside a decorative gift box, or find an attractive tin at your local dollar store or baking goods store. Write out a romantic, humorous or sweet gift message onto a nice greeting card or gift tag.

Marbled Fudge Brownies

Ingredients

Brownie Base

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) Butter (cut up)
  • 4 oz. semi-sweet chocolate (coarsely chopped)
  • 2 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs (lightly beaten)
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/4 cups coarsely chopped walnuts
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 salt

Topping

  • 1 package (8 oz.) cream cheese (softened)
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg (lightly beaten)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Butter a 13x9 inch baking pan.
  2. Base: Melt butter and chocolate in a double boiler over low simmering water.
  3. Remove from heat and add sugar, eggs, stir lightly until slightly blended.
  4. Stir flour, walnuts, vanilla and salt.
  5. Pour and press mixture into prepared pan.
  6. Topping: Beat cream cheese, sugar, egg and vanilla in large bowl with anelectric mixer at high speed until smooth.
  7. Spread the mixture over the chocolate base.
  8. Use a knife to draw decorative lines across teh topping.
  9. Bake for 40-45 miuntes, or until almost firm to the touch.
  10. Watch closely DO NOT BURN.
  11. Cool completely before cutting into bars.
